The 2010 IABC/Toronto Student of the Year and Bobbie Resnick Philanthropy awards go to...
The judging is complete and two of the IABC/Toronto’s most prestigious annual awards have been awarded.
- The Bobbie Resnick Philanthropy Award recognizes outstanding leadership, contribution to the communications profession and service to the community. The winner of the 2010 Bobbie Resnick Philanthropy Award is Environics Communications for their entry “Walk A Mile In Her Shoes”. The company partnered with the White Ribbon Campaign (WRC) in a pro-bono capacity, donating a huge amount of professional services for Toronto’s first Walk A Mile In Her Shoes Campaign (WAMHIS). The fundraising initiative featured an event in which men walked a mile in women’s high-heel shoes to bring awareness to the social issue of violence against women and girls. Environics drove public awareness by developing a socially-relevant communications strategy. Among other success, this campaign helped raise $85,000 for the White Ribbon Campaign.
- The IABC/Toronto Student of the Year Award is presented annually to a student who demonstrates exceptional communications skills and a promising future. This year’s recipient is Sheridan College student Matthew J. Dudman. In a year of strong entries, Dudman’s news release “Bridging the gap: PR student looks to make transition” stood out as the top entry. Entries were judged on creativity, clarity, conciseness, total impact, and most importantly, how well they met the stated objectives.
Both awards will be presented May 6th at the OVATION Awards Gala. Registration information is available here: http://toronto.iabc.com/recognition/ovation-awards/ovation-gala/.

Ask questions. If you’d like to know more about serving on the Board, contact one of the current Board members who are listed here: http://toronto.iabc.com/about-iabc/chapter-board
Complete a nomination form and submit it by May 7, 2010, along with a copy of your resume. Nomination forms are now available and should be sent to Leslie Hetherington, APR, at toronto-pastpresident@iabc.com.
