Is the ‘stay on message’ model relevant in today’s media landscape?

When the Headline is You – An Insider’s Guide to Handling the Media

Thursday, October 21, 2010, 6 to 8 p.m., Sutton Place, 955 Bay Street, Wellesley Room, Toronto - MAP/Directions

Featuring: Jeff Ansell, award-winning journalist, media and crisis communications expert and author of When the Headline is You: An Insider’s Guide to Handling the Media (Wiley Canada).

Today’s media environment is a constantly evolving quagmire, difficult to navigate even for the best communicators. The influence of citizen journalism and social media on the news cycle means a review of traditional communication methodologies in handling the media. Jeff Ansell, award-winning journalist and crisis communication expert, questions the relevance of the ‘stay on message’ approach and shares insight into an alternative framework for addressing problematic issues in a responsive, forthright manner. Session attendees will learn:

  • The pitfalls of following the message, a mantra approach from the perspective of a veteran journalist
  • Proven strategies for enhancing credibility with reporters and stakeholders
  • A simple yet powerful formula for crafting bad news messages that emphasize practical action

Jeff's new book, When the Headline is You will be available for purchase before and after the presentation and Jeff will sign copies following the Q and A.

RegisterRegistration Fees*:

  • $50: IABC Regular member ($56.50 with HST)
