Munch ‘n’ Mingle Season is Officially Upon Us!
Written by Amelia Bergstrom, Account Coordinator, Equicom Group, IABC/Toronto member and volunteer
The 2010/2011 Munch ‘n’ Mingle season officially opened with resounding success! On Tuesday, November 9th, Duggan’s Brewery was the place to be for more than 50 communicators who attended the first of many networking events to be held this Board year.
As attendees arrived, they were asked to name their favourite movie as part of an ice-breaker activity. Movies from just about every genre were selected – but I, like a number of other members, had a terrible time selecting only one or two favourites. Once I’d made the tough decision, it was exciting to learn what films other attendees had selected, and fascinating to see how a simple conversation about someone’s pick could transition into other communications-related topics.
Once everyone had arrived and exchanged a beverage ticket for a selection from the bar, Trell Huether, Executive Vice President, IABC/Toronto Executive Board, gave opening remarks and welcomed everyone to the event.
As a new IABC member and volunteer, I was a bit nervous to attend my first networking event. However, my fears were quickly put at ease when I learned how many other new members had registered for the event as well. IABC definitely has tons of friendly, helpful members and all attendees were eager to mix, mingle and speak with everyone else. The venue was casual, cozy, quaint and just perfectly conducive to sharing stories, tips and business cards.
If you haven’t been to Duggan’s, you really should go. As we mingled, there were lots of delicious snacks to be had: everything from fish and chips, to bruschetta, to onion rings, and everything in between. I must admit, I might have been guilty of a bit too much “munching”. The snacks definitely kept everyone energized for an evening of new introductions and great networking.
I certainly enjoyed myself and cannot wait to attend my next IABC event.
Special thanks to Amanda Flude for planning such a fun, enjoyable evening and to Alan McKenzie for capturing all the photographs.
Be sure to attend the next networking event, Taste of the South Pacific, happening at Watermark Irish Pub on Thursday, December 9, 2010.
