IABC/Toronto Student Members

Become a student member of IABC/Toronto in 2012 for the very reasonable price of $48 CND. Student memberships are available to all full-time students of colleges, universities, other educational institutions, and part-time students working toward a degree, certificate or diploma in communications.

For individuals who recently graduated from a degree program (or a certificate program in Canada) in the previous year, a transitional rate of $209.50 CDN is available for one year after graduation, after which full professional rates apply. To take advantage of this program, please complete and submit a transitional membership application.

Finally, student members are able to join and renew as a student or transitional member, online. Easy as the click of a mouse, simply register online then email, fax, or snail mail to IABC Head Quarters, the proper documents certifying your status.

Students represent the future of the practice of communications. IABC actively supports students’ education and entry into the field as a means of enhancing the field for all practitioners. IABC has more than 1,000 student members, mostly in the United States and Canada.

IABC/Toronto Student Members

  • IABC/Toronto has more than 190 student members
  • Student Members are enrolled in programs at Humber College, Ryerson University, Centennial College, Seneca College, Sheridan College, Durham College, University of Toronto and others
  • Organize student programs and social events

Student Qualifications

IABC defines student members as “full-time students of colleges, universities and other educational institutions…. This membership shall also be available to part-time students working towards a degree (or in Canada, a certificate), who are not presently engaged in the organizational communication profession.”

Applications for student membership must be received at least 60 days prior to graduation date.

To apply for student membership, students must submit the following when joining or renewing:

  1. A valid student ID (fax or photocopy).
  2. One of the following:
    1. copy/fax of a recent transcript, with name of the institution, name of the student, and a date (including the year)
    2. copy/fax of a class schedule provided by the school’s registrar, with name of the institution, name of the student, and a date including the year; or
    3. copy/fax of a receipt for tuition payment with name of the institution, name of the student and a date including the year.
  3. Students must also provide the year of expected graduation.
  4. Two copies of the Student Membership Application Form

Please note no student application will be processed before receipt of all four of these items.

Membership dues can be paid by cheque, Visa, American Express or MasterCard. Please allow two to six weeks for processing of your application if sent by postal mail. Please allow for five business days if submitted by fax. Note that all applications are processed at IABC World Headquarters in San Francisco, California, USA.

Upon graduation, IABC student members qualify for one-half off the international membership dues and exemption from the application fee if they join IABC as a practitioner member within one year of their graduation date. This “transitional” rate is for the first year of non-student membership. Note, chapter and district/regional dues still apply.
