IABC/Toronto Announces New Board of Directors
TORONTO September 29, 2010 – The Toronto Chapter of the International Association of Business Communicators has announced its new Board of Directors for the 2010/2011 board year.
The new board hopes to continue Toronto’s legacy of communications excellence which has seen it become the largest chapter of IABC. In early 2010, the Toronto Chapter won IABC’s International Chapter of the Year, marking the first time Toronto has won the award in more than 20 years.
Carrie MacAfee will take the reins from outgoing President Brent Carey, ABC. MacAfee brings experience from her role in strategic employee communications at Ontario Power Generation to her new role as President. She has been a member of IABC since 2000 and is entering her fourth year on the IABC/Toronto board.
“This year I’m excited about working with other volunteers to find new and innovative ways to engage members,” Says MacAfee. “While it’s impressive to have 1,700 members, the size and diversity of our membership brings an interesting challenge. We want to better understand what our members value and what we can do to get them more involved. That may mean going beyond our traditional events and offerings to reach people in a more dynamic way. I want members to think of IABC/Toronto as their connection to other members, to learning, and to career opportunities.”
Several other notable changes have been made the IABC/Toronto Board of Directors for the 2010/2011 board year. New faces included Katie O’Dell in the role of VP, Awards and Amanda Flude in the role of VP, Networking & Special Events.
