On Volunteer Night, many of you expressed an interest in writing for IABC. A lot of you were looking for a break from the uninspiring writing you do in your day jobs –  a place to uncap your creative juices. This is your chance.

Here are ten more reasons to write on the new IABC/Toronto blog:

  1. To stretch and strengthen your writing muscles. Haikus – humour – thought pieces – it’s all good. Be innovative. Be daring.
  2. To gain recognition. Many of you do amazing things that don’t meet award criteria. Post your creative baby on the blog and we’ll promote your posts on e-lerts, chapter social media and other venues.
  3. To share knowledge and mentor others.
  4. To provide an alternative to the printed Communicator for people who like to read online.
  5. To get around the limited space of Communicator.
  6. To pull feedback from other members. To get a discussion going, instantly.
  7. To measure how popular your writing is, based on your number of page views and comments.
  8. To practice blogging before you introduce it to your organization.
  9. To attract members to your own blog or podcast. Just include a link in your blog item.
  10. To fit your busy life. Because there’s no deadline or schedule, you can contribute whenever you please.
  11. Bonus! Because this is an easy, almost-no-rules fun place to blog. We won’t check your spelling, edit your thoughts or corporatize your concepts. You can post links to your artsy photos, flash mob video, contests or podcasts. As long as you stay away from mean, obscene, advertising and spam … go for it!

Our outgoing and incoming chapter presidents Carrie MacAfee and Trell Huether have been big supporters of this blog.  We are hoping this soft launch will give us some information on how the blog will evolve.

For the fall, we have big launch plans, possibly involving a contest for a name and look, a blog college, balloons and a 72-member marching band. With sousaphones!

So please post.  Or comment. Lead the parade!
